Shanghai Botanical Garden is conveniently located near Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai South Bus Station. The garden is a verdant oasis, home to a wide variety of flowering plants that can be admired throughout the year. With frequent themed flower exhibitions, visitors can encounter many rare species of flora, making it an ideal destination for flower appreciation and photography.
The Shanghai Botanical Garden features four entrances, all with nearby bus stops. The closest to Metro Line 3 is Entrance 4 on the north side, while Entrances 1 and 2 are located on Longwu Road on the east side. Self-driving visitors can park their vehicles at the main parking lot next to Entrance 2. The garden is not overly large, and it can typically be explored in about two hours.
The garden includes a showcase greenhouse, a bonsai garden, and an orchid house among its specialized areas. Spring is a popular time for flower viewing, especially during the blooming period of cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and tulips from March to May when the garden is bustling with visitors. In summer, one can stroll through the cool bamboo garden or admire the lotus flowers; autumn brings chrysanthemums and the red maples of the maple garden, yellow magnolias in the magnolia garden, as well as hawthorns, photinias, and begonias in the rose garden; winter visitors can explore the greenhouse to see a variety of exotic tropical plants.
In addition to flower viewing, visitors can rent bicycles to ride within the garden or take a boat ride on the river. There is also a children's playground near Entrance 4, where kids can enjoy rides like a mini-train, carousel, and bumper cars. After touring the botanical garden, visitors can visit the famous ancient Longhua Temple. Taking a bus from the bus stop outside Entrance 2 is very convenient.
