顾村公园
Gucun Park is a large park located in the northern suburbs of Shanghai. The park is lush with flora and is a popular destination for local residents for outings. It is not usually crowded, and on sunny days, it is common to see families with young children having picnics and basking in the sun.
The park boasts a cherry blossom planting area of over 1400 acres, with 110 varieties and more than 14,000 cherry blossom trees that bloom successively from March to April each year. Over the years, the park has developed a unique cherry blossom landscape that changes with every step: the cherry blossom avenue that stretches from east to west connects various cherry blossom viewing spots such as the Mei Cherry Forest, Cherry Forest, Cherry Garden, Weeping Cherry Forest, Fuku Sakura Forest, Cherry Square, Friendship Forest, Early Cherry Forest, and Cherry Variety Garden, as well as new landscapes with traditional Chinese cultural characteristics like the Pine Moon Forest, Lanlan Square, and Sunshine Forest.
Early to mid-blooming cherry varieties like the Flyhan樱 and Higan桜 varieties bloom first in spring, creating a spectacular display like clouds and rosy mists.
After the peak bloom of the Higan桜, it is followed by the early cherry blossom varieties, ensuring a seamless transition. With the arrival of the Higan桜, all cherry blossom varieties will bloom one after another, including early varieties like the Kawazu Sakura, Taiyu Sakura, and Hanhigan Sakura, which will also reach their peak bloom around the end of February and beginning of March.
Hundreds of Sunshine Sakura are already in their initial blooming stage, swaying gracefully in the Sunshine Forest; the mid-blooming Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, nurtured by the spring rain, are also budding and are expected to reach their full bloom in mid to late March.
The lotus flowers in Gucun Park are naturally planted across multiple water areas in the park, covering an area of over 300 acres, with a total of 28 varieties including Qingling Red Lotus, Friendship Peony Lotus, Fujian Red Lotus, White Jian Lotus, and Sword Dance. They usually start to bloom in mid-June, and as temperatures rise, they begin to unfold at the end of June, entering their peak blooming period in mid to late July, with the blooming period lasting for over a month, and some varieties lasting until September.
The golden osmanthus appreciation in autumn is a traditional seasonal tourism activity at Gucun Park. As autumn arrives, the park is filled with the fragrance of osmanthus, and the various colorful leaf species create a vibrant display that attracts many visitors. Currently, over 10,000 osmanthus trees of varying sizes and shapes are planted within the park's open area, with main varieties including Golden Osmanthus, Silver Osmanthus, Dan Osmanthus, and Four Seasons Osmanthus, scattered throughout the park.
The rose theme garden covers an area of about 534 acres and displays 128 varieties. The blooming period for roses is from late April to late December, with May and October being the peak blooming seasons.
The plum blossoms in Gucun Park are mainly distributed from the Mei Cherry Forest to the Mengxiong Bridge and Xiangjia Bridge, near the Oriental Bird World, and around the Cherry Barbecue Garden. Every year from the end of January to February, the plum blossoms stand proudly on the branches, emitting a subtle fragrance.
The park is quite large, and in addition to walking along the lake, visitors can rent bicycles for transportation. Besides picnicking, flying kites, taking electric boats, and having group barbecues on the grass, the park also features various recreational facilities and a dinosaur park (with an additional fee).
