Dongping National Forest Park is located in the central part of Chongming Island, known for its lush trees and fresh air, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can invite a few friends to barbecue here or rent bicycles for a ride around the park. It's also a great place to escape the heat in the summer. For larger groups, there's even a paintball option; children can enjoy bumper cars, carousels, and other amusement facilities.
The forest park has two gates, the main entrance at Gate 1 on the south side and Gate 2 on the southwest side, both of which provide access to the park. The park is quite large, and many visitors choose to rent bicycles at the entrance for transportation, which typically takes about 2 hours to cycle around the entire park. Alternatively, you can take an electric cart or a small train for a more time-saving and less strenuous tour.
Upon entering the park through Gate 1, most of the entertainment facilities and experiential projects are concentrated on the right side, including paintball shooting, archery, horse riding, go-karting, and grass sliding, as well as pedal boats and water walking balls for water entertainment. The park also features specialized gardens such as the osmanthus garden, plum garden, cherry blossom garden, bamboo garden, and maple garden, where different flowers and plants can be admired in each season. Especially in late autumn, the park's dense and vibrant red maple forests are quite eye-catching. The abandoned J-6 fighter plane nestled within the red maple forest exudes an old-time charm, with its silver body accompanied by the swaying red maples, presenting a stunning blend of strength and beauty.
On the west side of the park, the sika deer farm has both free-roaming and penned deer, where children can feed the deer by hand, which is quite interesting. Additionally, deep within the park, there are barbecue and camping areas. Barbecueing in the forest has a wild and rustic charm; you can bring your own ingredients or purchase them at the barbecue area. The park provides rental of grills and other items, but try to avoid holidays when the barbecue area is usually very crowded. You can also bring a tent to rest on the large lawn or even spend the night in the camping area to experience a taste of outdoor life, as the park also rents tents and sleeping bags.
