The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden offers plant viewing all year round. Even in winter, the exhibition greenhouses present a lush and verdant scene, making it a good photo-taking spot with a strong artistic atmosphere in Shanghai. The botanical garden also hosts various flower exhibitions in different seasons, which are worth visiting.

Named after the Chenshan within the garden, visitors can climb to the top of the hill to overlook the entire park. In the 20th century, due to stone mining, the southern slope of Chenshan was removed. Now, on the site of the former mining pit, the Pit Garden has been built, which is a highlight within the garden. Visitors can walk down the steps to the floating bridge over the lake at the bottom of the pit, where waterfalls cascade into the lake, and pass through the mountain cave to reach the connected rock and medicinal botanical gardens, giving a real mining experience.

The cherry blossom garden of the Chenshan Botanical Garden is located near the main entrance (Gate 1). Along the 1.5-kilometer-long Sakura Avenue No. 1, the Koto Sakura, one of the earlier blooming "early sakura" varieties in the Shanghai area, will bloom large, pink flowers from the end of February to early March each year, with the best viewing period expected in early March.

The Spring Scenery Garden of the Chenshan Botanical Garden is planted with several highly ornamental pear varieties, such as "Warrior," "Red Pagoda," and "Rooster." Walking to the end of the Sakura Avenue No. 1 and looking up, visitors can see two pear trees facing each other. Recommended viewing period: early to mid-March.

From March to April, a mix of spring flowers such as daffodils, hyacinths, grape hyacinths, tulips, and other flowers are sown together, creating a continuous blooming spectacle.

The botanical garden has three gates: Gate 1, Gate 2, and Gate 3. Gate 1 is the main entrance, and general visitors who want to tour the entire garden in the usual order can enter through Gate 1. In addition to the Pit Garden on the north side of the garden, another highlight is the exhibition greenhouse, which is close to Gate 2. Photography enthusiasts can enter through Gate 2.

The exhibition greenhouse, located near Gate 2, is composed of three greenhouse halls: the Tropical Flower and Fruit Hall, the Succulent Plant Hall, and the Rare Plant Hall, all decorated with waterfalls and mountain caves. Inside, there are silver small-leaf tour route arrows to follow. The Tropical Flower and Fruit Hall is planted with orchids, birds-of-paradise (strelitzia), traveler's palms with leaf stalks that can hold several kilograms of water, palms, and other plants. The Succulent Plant Hall features various cacti, some long and thin like cucumbers, others short and round like watermelons, and various succulent plants with fleshy leaves. In the Rare Plant Hall, you can see rare and peculiar plants formed during the process of natural survival and evolution, such as carnivorous plants, cycads, ferns, etc.

To the southwest of the exhibition greenhouse, there is a special garden for the blind, themed "One Meter of Sunshine" due to its rice grain-like shape when viewed from above. This area primarily serves visually impaired and blind visitors, planting various plants that are thornless, have distinct olfactory characteristics, unique plant shapes, and bright colors to cater to their sense of touch, hearing, and smell. It features Chinese, English, Braille, and audio systems, as well as pathways for the blind, handrails, rest pavilions, and toilets that are accessible for blind users.
