Century Park is located at the southeast end of Century Avenue in Pudong and is one of the larger natural ecological parks in downtown Shanghai. The park is divided into several areas, including the local rural area, lakeside area, sparse forest lawn area, bird protection area, and exotic scenery area, offering a good ecological environment and a great place to relax and enjoy leisure activities in the city.
The Mirror Sky Lake in the park is one of the larger artificial lakes in the Shanghai area, approximately circular with a diameter of about 300 meters. The Zhangjiabang River runs through the park, creating a crisscrossing waterway ecosystem. When a breeze blows, standing on the Cloud Sail Bridge by the water or on the observation platform, one can experience the rare tranquility of rippling waves in the city. The park offers fishing and boat riding services by the lake, making it an excellent choice for entertainment and relaxation. The bird protection area is home to dozens of bird species, and there are also dozens of specially trained grey magpies that chirp and play amidst the trees and lakes, adding to the natural charm.
There are also many plant-themed gardens and attractions within the park. The Oriental Rainbow Bonsai Garden in the northeastern part of the park features over 160 unique bonsai plants with high ornamental value. The sparse forest area has four gardens representing spring, summer, autumn, and winter, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful flowers of each season. A representative attraction is the Century Flower Clock located north of Mirror Sky Lake, which is a symbolic landmark of the entire park. The flower clock, surrounded by clusters of flowers and marked with hornbeam for the time scale, has a central dial adorned with yellow flowers, creating a colorful display. The flower clock is not just for decoration; it has a real timing function controlled by satellite instruments with an error margin within 0.03 seconds, which is quite fascinating.
Among these gardens and vegetation, there are green mazes, plant camels, plant peacocks, and other shapes made from plants, as well as characteristic sculptures like the Green World and Olmeca ethnic carvings. These sculptures are dotted throughout the green jungle, creating a peaceful and tranquil natural ecosystem that contrasts sharply with the bustling city around it, making the park even more vibrant.
The northern part of the park is the Century Park Amusement Area, featuring various children's amusement projects such as bumper cars, skywalks, and rafting boats, making it a paradise for children. The southern part of the amusement area is the lawn and pigeon attraction, where buying a bag of pigeon food and interacting with the pigeons is also a fun activity. To the west of the amusement area is the musical fountain scenic spot, with 208 nozzles and over 600 colored lights, where visitors can enjoy the spectacle of water columns dancing to music, creating an elegant and romantic atmosphere.
