Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Located in Qingpu District, Shanghai, Zhujiajiao is a quintessential Jiangnan water town known for its crisscrossing waterways and elegant environment. The town boasts gardens, historical sites, numerous traditional snacks, and boutique shops, making it a prime destination for exploring ancient towns around Shanghai.

Zhujiajiao is not large, and it can be easily explored on foot. A leisurely walk around the town can be completed in about half a day. After entering from the southern entrance, you will first come across the Zhuxi Garden and the Humanities Art Museum. Zhuxi Garden is a small and exquisite garden that is now open to the public for free. The Humanities Art Museum is a uniquely designed modern white building that records the local history and culture of Zhujiajiao through oil paintings and sculptures.

Continuing north on Beidajie Street, you will find it bustling with pedestrians and lined with snack shops offering famous local delicacies such as "Apo Zongzi" (Grandma's Zongzi), "Guzhen Tangyuan" (Ancient Town Glutinous Rice Balls), and "Jiang Zhuti" (Sauce Pig's Feet), as well as various delicate pastries.

As you stroll further north along Beidajie Street, you will see quaint bridges like Yongfeng Bridge and Tai'an Bridge on your right, each with its own distinctive design. Across the river is Caohe Street, where you can find attractions such as the Qing Dynasty Post Office, Wang Chang Memorial Hall, City God Temple, and Yuanjin Zen Temple. There are also many boutique shops along the street, including the famous "Cat's Sky City" bookstore.

On the right side of Beidajie Street, there is a large bridge spanning the main river channel, known as the Zhujiajiao's famous Fangsheng Bridge. After crossing the bridge, you will find more small waterways and riverside boutique shops and snacks on the other side. The Kezhi Garden, located within the Zhujiajiao scenic area, is a fine example of a Jiangnan garden that combines the essence of classical gardens and is worth a visit.
